It's a two sided crib mattress, with one side is extra firm for infant use, while the opposite is for toddlers.

It contains layers of 100% certified organic cotton. To what degree, I am not sure. However, I will try to find out.

Looking at the construction itself - it is firm and will provide enough support for your infant as he grows.
